Horses, Horses, Horses, Horses
The last week or so has been homework mayhem. Thanksgiving, though, was fantastic anyway, and no matter how hectic life is, there is ALWAYS something to make me smile. Here are just a few funny moments:
1. A couple of days ago, I talked to Ada on the phone. Our conversation went something like this:
Ada: I've missed you so much!
Me: I've missed you too!
Ada: I've wanted to ask you how is school?
Me: Oh, it's pretty good.
Ada: Good!...Look out for aliens!
Me: Aliens?
Ada: Yeah Mommy and Daddy say they aren't real.
Me: Yeah they don't exist, they're fake. Where did you learn about aliens?
Ada: I didn't! I just told Daddy about them!
THAT'S where she came from!!! Just kidding, but seriously, you never know what's going to come out of that girl's mouth, including, "You're such a backstabber!...You don't know what a backstabber is..."A backstabber is my best friend." haha Gotta love her.
2. The girls and I have been learning a dance for the office Christmas party. It's from the dance sequence in the Pussycat Doll's music video "When I Grow Up." Don't worry now, we've changed it to look a little less slutty. Certain things are just NOT appropriate. Anyway, the other day, there were 5 of us practicing in the office...you have to understand that our office is small...and the 5 of us were practicing in a space four feet long (as in that much space to walk forward). Behind us were cabinets, in front of us were our cubicles. In the spirit of Christmas we had decorated the metal edge of our cubicle walls. Tinsel along the top, hanging down the front, and a Christmas ornament attached to the end at about hip height. (If this is confusing look at the picture and you may know where this is going)ANYWAY, about 3 seconds into the dance you skip forward, turn your head to the right, put your hands up, turn around, bend over, and slap the floor. Well...something went horribly wrong. As I bent over, I felt a strange pressure on my butt, and then the sound of something shattering....
YES PEOPLE, I shattered a Christmas ornament with my butt while doing a dance move to the Pussycat Dolls. The minute it happened, Jes and I practically collapsed on the floor laughing. Kris, my boss, explained to those not watching that I had KICKED the ornament while dancing. Knowing the truth, Jes and I laughed harder, and in my laughter, I said, "My butt, it was my butt." SHATTERED. Little pieces. On the desk, and on the floor. And with a shout out to my sister Beth, I quote her original reaction...That's some powerful junk!

3. So, the day after I got back from Thanksgiving I had a letter from an Elder Hatch. Who's Elder Hatch? Well, that's what I wanted to know. My roommate Erin has a boyfriend who is on a mission, and his name is Austin. Austin's zone leader is Elder Hatch...he had to beg Austin to be allowed to write me. Anyway, it was quite comical; he told me he is 5'11 and blonde, he plays sports and his favorite color is blue. Deep stuff. In return he asked me similar questions along with "Would you prefer a burger from McDonald's or Burger King?" By this time I was about to die laughing...not to be rude, I'm sure he's a nice kid. To top it all off, he said I could write him back and send a picture. (I don't know...) AND he signed it "Peace and grease) What is that???
4. My Bishop texts. I received one the other day that said "Do not show anyone from Apartment 44 coming to the party. You girls trying to make the guys cry?" haha I told him I was coming and he responded with "Outstanding!"
5. During Thanksgiving, I got lost running in my parent's neighborhood. Who knew that place could be so complicated?
On another note there are things that are not funny but make me smile anyway. Like:
Beth saying "Did you say steak?" (actually that is funny!)
Sitting by this ginormous live tree in the library that keeps dropping leaves like it's really
experiencing winter.
The thought that Christmas break is in two weeks.
Ice Cream
David Archuleta (yeah I'm a nerd)
Talking to cute boys (duh)
Texting Mycole
Playing with Jefferson
Sundays
Snow
The list could go on forever...
Let me close by saying that I look forward to embracing the spirit of Christmas this year. Presents couldn't sound less important to me right now (even though I know I am getting a few excellent items for Christmas) Never have I felt more of a need to be immersed in the spirit of giving, the spirit of the Lord, the spirit of my Family, and the spirit of setting your priorities straight. Many people find a temporary happiness in front of the Christmas tree, but I already have a happiness that can outlast any present because of the things listed above...and the little things listed above that...and the little and bigger things that will continue to come for the rest of my life.
"Deck the halls with mistletoe
May all your heavy burdens go
Up the chimney in a cloud of smoke
The fire's burning bright
Strike up the band and play the tune
Cause Christmas will be here and soon"
