modern fairytales

I'm a romantic. I have ideals. I like to dream. In fact, I daydream often...even more than I dream in my sleep. I like the idea of skydiving because of the freefall. I like the sunrise and all of the metaphors that may come with it. I believe in silliness. I smile big, and I can have intense optimism.

At the same time, though, I like reality. I am who I am. I have to work to be better. I have no problem saying, "That's stupid." I like hearing the occassional "I can't promise you that everything will be okay"...even if I don't believe it. I do not control time or seasons. And no matter how much I love my favorite singers, they may never be as rich as Miley Cyrus.

Both of these elements, realism and romanticism, bring stability to my life. I want to freefall AND know that I will land safe. I want to take a risk AND know that life can afford mistakes. I want to smile big to outwiegh yesterday's frown. I want to be silly at work and serious at home...or was that the other way around?

Viktor Frankl says, "It can be seen that mental health is based on a certain degree of tension, the tension between what one has already achieved and what one still ought to accomplish, or the gap between what one is and what one should become...What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for a worthwhile goal, a freely chosen task."

The different directions that real life and dream life pull me in are actually helping me realize where I want to be. They co-exist and work together. You really can have your head in the clouds with your feet on the ground.

What a good day!

Happy Mother's Day Mom! You're the best! Seriously. What would I do without you?

I thought about keeping this all for myself

Hey future husband,

I'm still out there looking for you...or trying not to look so that maybe you'll find and surprise me instead. When you see me for the first time, I hope I'm laughing...that's when I'm so clearly myself. I wear my sunglasses inside sometimes; I hope you can live with that. If you don't get mad at me for beating you at sports, I won't get mad at you for beating me at scrabble...promise. Will you join me for random dance parties in the living room? I hope you will. You might have to monitor my ice cream consumption...it's my first weakness...after you I'm sure. I can't wait to hold your hand. Anyway, I'm going to bed now so that my eyes will be clear in the morning in case I catch a glimpse...I just wanted to give you a heads up. Miss you.
love,
jess
