Pedestal-It's YOUR Life

Please forgive me while I take a quick moment to vent and make a point.

There are four kinds of people: those who know what they want in life and go for it, those who aren't quite sure but constantly work towards figuring it out, those who don't know and don't do anything about it and those who DO know and don't do anything about it. I have a group of guy friends that could more or less fit in the last category...and they, unashamed, know I think this about them.

At their age, this mindset does not impress me and quite frankly, it frustrates me FOR them (I'm a teacher, I want people to be smart and successful). So the problem is that while one guy waits on the perfect job, and one waits to be a little older, and one waits to be a little more tied down, well, there's a lot of waiting and even more idleness.

There's a new song on the radio that's quite catchy and if you don't really listen to the lyrics, you could be deceived by it's meaning. The chorus repeats "Can we pretend like airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right now." I first thought, "Oh that's cute and hopeful." WRONG. The song goes on to say:

Let's pretend Marshall Mathers never picked up a pen
Let's pretend things would have been no different
Pretend he procrastinated had no motivation
Pretend he just made excuses that were so paper thin they could blow away with the wind
He never risked ---- he hoped and he wished it but it didn't fall in his lap so he ain't even here
He pretends that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars.

Sometimes the problem with dreams is that they stay just that and they never become a reality. We rely on our idle passion, a shooting star, a coin in the fountain. Eminem makes the point above that he had to take ACTION in order to get his life at its current level of success. You have the power to take control of your life and make things happen. Focus on what your good at and open doors today. Not tomorrow. Now. Just do it

"You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself, any direction you choose." -Dr. Seuss

ON ANOTHER NOTE: Check out the awesome weekend I had with my favorite (and totally motivated/amitious) girls. Emily blogged about it here. Kristen blogged about it here.
